Have you become your name?

My cousin’s son just born a few weeks ago. He named his son; Fobo. Yes, Fobo. Plain Fobo. I didn’t know what it means, so I asked my cousin, and he texted; “No meaning, just a name”. Ok. It’s a cute name. Frankly, reminds me of umm.. I don’t have a heart to write it.

Old folkes said name is a prayer. It’s what parents hoped the child turned up to be. But it doesn’t always go that way.. some people look for a name that just sounds nice to call to. Or, there are the kind of parents usually search for a name that unordinary, for example; my cousin. Well, how many kids have the name; Fobo? I’m sure my cousin wants his son to be different (well, that’s the kindest thought I have for this case).

My name consists of two words, by the way. The first word is Kartika, the second words is my Dad’s name. Indonesian people usually give their children long names (the more prayer the better, right?). As a kid, I hated that name. I wished my name was ‘pretty’ with a letter “V” in it, like some friends’ names in my kindegarten. Such as devi, eva, vivi… (don’t know why I had the thought of that) It’s a realief to found out that the meaning of kartika is a star (growing up as a teenager I collect things with the shape of a star), well, at least it got a meaning. It’s the only thing that cheered me up when it comes to my name back then. The real reason my parent (my mom) gave me that name is because when she was having me she was still taking the statistic course (or some kind of.. I don’t really remember) and failed the course because I was born and she had to take care of me. So my name was basically given by the reason of a failure (Darn it, Tiq!!!). But I still sometimes I wonder if my parents really want me to be a star.. :P I’m sure they don’t.
